What they make
- Co-owners Jordy Kirkman and Maxwel Knudsen began brewing together as a home project; Kirkman got his start in cider by pressing apples at his parents' small orchard in Cache Valley.[2][3]
- The house ciders include Prancing Pony, a dry cider made with apples from the Kirkman family farm, and flavored ciders such as Dark Portal, with black currant and black cherry.[4][3]
- Its meads include Blood Gem Tiger Sword, a sparkling tart-cherry mead, and an oak-rested root beer mead.[4][2]
- The cider and mead list rotates with the seasons and with whatever the makers want to try next.[2]
Visiting
- The taproom at 117 W 900 S opened in October 2024 in a former AlphaGraphics building, built out by the owners as a medieval fantasy tavern with handmade lanterns, sconces and themed restrooms.[2][1]
- It pours its ciders and meads by the glass or as flights, alongside cocktails and guest beers, and food trucks serve outside; you can bring their food in.[4]
- It keeps a library of board and card games and runs regular game and trivia nights, plus a yearly 21+ fantasy fair called Apples & Daggers.[3][5]
Bottles to go
- DABS licenses a package agency at the cidery; that type of agency, at a licensed maker, lets the business sell the packaged products it makes.[6][7]
Utah lets a brewery, winery or distillery sell its own packaged products on site through a “Type 5” package agency[7]; anything else comes from a state liquor store.
What locals say
- The Salt Lake Tribune covered its opening as the owners' bid to make Utah's first "experience" bar, built around games like Dungeons & Dragons.[2]
- SLUG Magazine reported a strong welcome in its first months, with crowds growing month to month, and credited its game nights and do-it-yourself fantasy decor.[3]
